Safety Code

Last updated: 24 August 2026

Every Healer agrees to this code and completes safety training before their first session. It exists so that paying for a Healer session always feels at least as safe as posting in a free Circle.

Healio is peer support, not therapy or crisis care. If you're in immediate danger or thinking of harming yourself, please contact your local emergency number or a crisis helpline — in India, Tele-MANAS is available free on 14416, any hour.

1. Before a Healer's first session

1
Identity verificationEvery Healer applicant confirms their real identity with Healio — even though they'll appear to users under a first name, as verified peers rather than anonymous strangers.
2
Safety Code trainingApplicants complete training on this code — the conduct standards, boundaries, and risk protocols below — before they're approved to take sessions.
3
Ongoing standingA Healer's ability to take sessions depends on staying in good standing against this code, not just passing it once.

2. What Healers are — and aren't

Healers are people who've personally lived through something hard — heartbreak, grief, burnout, starting over — and are now offering their time to listen. They are not licensed therapists, counsellors, psychiatrists, or medical professionals, and Healio does not represent them as such.

Healers must not diagnose, prescribe, claim clinical expertise they don't hold, or discourage someone from seeking professional or emergency care when it's warranted.

3. Healer conduct standards

  • Treat every user with respect, regardless of what they share or how they're struggling.
  • Stay within the scope of lived-experience peer support — share what helped you, don't direct someone's decisions for them.
  • Never solicit money, contact, or a relationship outside the platform.
  • Never record a session, or use anything shared in a session outside of it.
  • Show up for booked sessions, and communicate honestly about availability and rates.
  • Take breaks when you need them — Healers supporting others should not be running on empty themselves.

4. Boundaries

Healers set their own hours and rate, and can decline or end any session that feels unsafe, abusive, or outside what they're able to support. A Healer ending a session for this reason is never penalised. Healio does not require a Healer to justify ending a session to the user involved.

5. Handling signs of risk

If a user's messages suggest they may be at immediate risk of harming themselves or someone else, Healers are trained to gently point them to emergency services or a crisis helpline (in India, Tele-MANAS on 14416) and to flag the session to Healio's safety team — Healers are not expected or permitted to act as a crisis responder themselves. This flagging is a safety exception to normal confidentiality, described below.

6. Confidentiality

What's shared in a Healer session stays there, with two exceptions: Healio's safety team may review session metadata or content as part of investigating a report, and a Healer may flag an immediate risk of harm as described above. Outside of that, Healers must not repeat, screenshot, or share what a user tells them.

7. What we ask of users, too

Safety runs both ways. Users are expected to treat Healers with the same respect — no harassment, no pressuring a Healer for contact outside the app, no abusive language. A user who violates this code with a Healer is subject to the same reporting and enforcement process as our Community Guidelines.

8. Reporting a concern

If a session — as a user or as a Healer — felt unsafe, inappropriate, or outside what's described here, report it from the session in-app, or email help@healio.club with the Healer's name or session details. Reports involving safety are prioritised ahead of routine moderation.

9. Consequences

Violating this code can result in a Healer being suspended from taking sessions while we investigate, retraining, or permanent removal from the Healer programme for serious or repeated violations — separate from any action on their underlying Healio account under our Community Guidelines.
